New Agreement Recognizes Safety Trained Supervisors

The Council on Certification of Health, Environmental and Safety Technologists and OSHA recently signed an agreement that recognizes the safety trained supervisor certification for construction sites.

According tithe certification council, companies that employ certified supervisors indicate to compliance officers that a site is being operated by individuals with demonstrated knowledge and ability and may contribute to a project's qualification for a "Focused OSHA Inspection."

The certification council said implementation of the agreement should have an immediate, significant impact on the achievement of safe construction sites.

OSHA administrator John Henshaw was on hand to sign the agreement.

"This agreement enables OSHA to recognize a certification that verifies the safety and health knowledge of individual supervisors on construction sites," Henshaw said. "We are delighted to encourage the promotion of safety and health at construction worksites through such programs as this certification program of CCHEST."
